There’s a new diva rising on the scene…or divo? Stanley Ray has many eyebrows raised at him, not only because of his high singing range and sultry voice, but his very androgynous appearance. Yep, an androgynous baby faced black boy with a head full of fine wavy curly hair. But this doesn’t faze the 21 year old song bird, considering he’s been confused as the opposite sex his entire life and constantly asked “are you a boy or a girl?”.
Stanley released his debut album, ‘BabyBoy‘, on January 4, 2020 and so far he’s had great success with getting played on a few college radio stations and even just got off set from his first job as a background actor. He says if there had to be any challenge he’s faced so far since he debuted, he says it’s the constant fight for respect and to be taken seriously because of how young he is. But, like every new artist, they’re bombarded with harsh album critics and Internet trolls.
For the most part Stanley received positive feedback on his album but it’s still taking some people a while to understand him, mainly because of his quirky personality and androgynous appearance. This isn’t a typical modern day kid. His style is very much cross colours and 90s vintage, which doesn’t usually fly right away to one’s eye in today’s time.
He’s also very bold with his sexuality and even referencing it very subtly in his music here and there. Okay, I mean it’s not like he’s the first singer of colour to be gay. In the end, it’s clearly working out for him in his favour and he’s obviously not going let anyone tear him down or stop him from reaching success.
