Blood Orange drops new tracks ‘Jewelry’ and ‘Charcoal Baby’ alongside accompanying videos

Blood Orange (AKA Multi-instrumentalist/producer/songwriter Devonté Hynes) has just dropped not one but two new tracks, set to be featured on his forthcoming album, ‘Negro Swan.’

‘Charcoal Baby’ is slinky R&B at its best, with that right amount of genre fusing. Hynes is sure to give the track an electronic edge alongside its melt in your mouth pop production. The accompanying video adds another layer to the track’s meaning, this Crack Stevens-directed video, features a spoken word introduction on the importance of family, with its visuals celebrating the beauty of familial ties, as it follows two different families in split screen.

The equally sultry, ‘Jewelry’ is a more somber affair, with moody guitars and delicate saxophones. The accompanying video directed by Hynes himself, features Janet Mock, Kai the Black Angel and Ian Isiah Hynes has spoken about the themes explored on his upcoming album, stating: “My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color.

Negro Swan is set for release on 25th August.
