It’s a Softer, Gentler HeIsTheArtist on New Whitney Houston Cover

There’s no doubt that Heistheartist is one of the most unique performers in the modern gospel music scene. Between his wonderfully bizarre style of vocal delivery and thumping, emotional beats, he stands out from the crowd with his unique musical style. His latest single, “I Believe in You and Me” is a softer, sentimental track, a bit atypical for the artist, so let’s see how he handles it in our full review.

Listening to the single, what instantly captures our attention is how different it is from HeIsTheArtist’s usual music. Gone are the trap beats, heavy-hitting bass and deeply complex arrangements. Replacing them, we have nothing more than a piano, playing a light and liberating piece that soars. It’s a bold choice for HeIsTheArtist, but one that we feel pays off for the song.

The piano on “I Believe in You and Me” reminds us the usual gospel fare, but with a fascinatingly emotional twist. It’s light, brisk and joyful, fitting the vibes the song is going for. We’re big fans of cohesion, and the sheer simplicity of the arrangement here works wonders with the ideas it’s presenting. It all culminates in a beautifully light and airy tune that fits in HeIsTheArtist’s discography.

A big part of why it still manages to stay unique and true to HeIsTheArtist’s style is his vocals. While the instrumentals are definitely something new, he himself brings his usual delivery to the table, which plays to the expectations of the track. It’s clever use of juxtaposition, with the nasally, trap-inspired singing meshing shockingly well with the simplicity of the music.

We’ve been talking a lot about the technical skill on display here, but that’s mainly because “I Believe in You and Me” is a relatively simple song. As a result of the song’s simplicity however, Heistheartist really gets to show off his breadth and creativity. He gets across joyful emotion shockingly well with this performance, resonating with the listener despite the bizarrely unique choices.

Overall, while some may find HeIsTheArtist’s vocals to be a bit difficult to get into, those who manage will be rewarded with a one-of-a-kind musical experience. Between how the single lulls and rises with its rhythm, as well as the artist’s performance on the track, you’re not going to find anything like this anywhere else. “I Believe in You and Me” gets a hearty recommendation from us!
