Lady Decibel Sits Down to Share Insights into Their Creative World

Emerging on the Electronic Music scene, the talented duo Lady Decibel have recently embarked on their journey, aiming to break down barriers and reshape the genre’s landscape for female DJs. Based in Orlando, the duo has been working to refine their approach, developing their style as they take to blending the genres of Dance and Techno to introduce refreshing energy and original sound. With their story as a duo only just getting started, we are looking forward to learning more about their influences, creative approach, and future goals as we sit down with Lady Decibel for this exclusive quickfire interview.

Analog synths or digital plugins?

We’ve been in the production game for only about two years now and so far, we’ve only collected digital equipment. We’re definitely hoping to add some analog synths to our setup in the future. If we could get one right now it would be the Moog Subsequent 25. It’s compact and portable, which makes it perfect for traveling. We also have plans to incorporate an analog synth into our live performances someday, and the Moog Subsequent 25 would be our top choice.

One track that never leaves your setlist?

That’s a great question! It’s a bit tough to answer since we love playing fresh tracks and don’t stick to just one. However, if we had to choose, it would be “Blood Is Pumping” by Voodoo & Serano. That track is truly timeless! It came out in the early 2000s but it could still light up a Techno set like it was released this year. It absolutely rips!

Favourite DAW?

We’re really into Ableton Live; it’s our favourite DAW for sure. The session view is awesome because it makes experimenting with ideas and loops feel so natural and easy. It’s like having a digital sketchpad that lets us play around with tracks in a fun, non-linear way.

The built-in tools are great, covering everything from synths to effects, and the support for third-party plugins means we can customize everything to match our sound perfectly.

Ableton just fits into our workflow like it was made for us. It’s super musician-friendly, which makes capturing ideas and turning them into tracks a breeze. Plus, the community is amazing, with tons of tutorials and resources online if we ever need help.

Overall, Ableton Live isn’t just software for us—it’s a key part of how we create music, mixing creativity and functionality effortlessly.

Dream festival to headline?

This one’s a no-brainer for us—our dream festival to headline is EDC Las Vegas. And that’s for two reasons: one, we got married there in 2018; and two, it’s honestly the happiest place on Earth. Pasquale, the man behind it, is a true ’90s raver and a pioneer of the American rave scene. He’s still going strong, pushing the whole PLUR (Peace Love Unity Respect) mantra at every event he runs, not just EDC. We really look up to him and admire what he’s done for the scene. It would be wild to come back not as ravers but as headliners one day. Oh, the dream!

One artist you’d love to work with?

Oh, that’s a tough one! We can’t pick just one—there are three: Eli Brown, Lilly Palmer, and Reinier Zonneveld. Each has become a true master of their craft over the recent years.

Most used production technique?

In every track we use a simple trick: we lower the volume by -1.5dB before the drop to make it hit a bit harder. And here’s another fun trick—we “Sausage Fatten” the drops, only by about 1%, to give them that extra punch and make them stand out. Yes, we actually use Sausage Fattener! Haha.

Essential item in your DJ set-up?

The Pioneer RMX-1000 is essential gear. It’s been around for quite a while, so it’d be great to see a refreshed version from Alpha Theta (formerly Pioneer DJ). We also have a little ritual during our sets: we always bring along a small copper Buddha statue and keep it on the mixer in front of us. It acts as a simple reminder to stay humble and be kind wherever we are. Being deeply spiritual, that little charm is a meaningful part of our setup.

Next career goal you hope to achieve?

We would love to drop a full album someday to really showcase our style and sound and follow it up with a global tour. That would be a huge milestone for Lady Decibel and an incredible moment in our career.

Favourite genre outside of Electronic Music?

We mostly listen to Electronic Music but we also have a soft spot for R&B and Soul. In fact, our very first independent release was an R&B track called “Damage.”

Most memorable performance?

Lady Decibel just made its debut in January of this year, and we’re excited about the incredible live events we’ll have in the future. But here’s a standout story: back in 2010, Dianne opened for David Guetta during the release of his iconic album One Love. That year was a turning point for Dance music in America. Remarkably, Dianne performed just three days after having her appendix removed. Despite being fresh out of surgery, she delivered an unforgettable set, and the energy that night was absolutely electric! In fact, the club was so packed it would have been shut down on the spot if the fire marshal had shown up. We’d never seen anything like it!

Our conversation with Lady Decibel has provided a glimpse into the minds of these innovative artists, providing an insider’s look into their approach and the goals they hope to achieve. Motivated by their passion for music and dedication to creating inclusive and unforgettable experiences, Lady Decibel are committed to their growth within Electronic Music, driven to set themselves apart and take their original sound to new stages soon. So, as we eagerly anticipate what the future will hold for Lady Decibel, make sure to stay tuned to their social media to not miss out on any updates about their releases and upcoming performances.
