MC Sessions | Ren and Sam Tompkins

There has been plenty of hype around singer-songwriters, Ren and Sam Tompkins’ recent collaboration, ‘Blind-Eyed’. Their sound is a mix of modern R&B and singer-songwriter pop, taking cues from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Jamie-T. Long before their winding paths met some years ago, Tompkins and Ren had both been navigating various scenes to their advantage.

Ren began cutting his musical teeth several years ago, whilst playing in a folk-pop band Trick The Fox.  Spotted on the streets of Bath, the band went on to gather a devout underground fanbase. Sadly, the band’s progress came to sudden halt in 2012 when due to health issues, a wildly talented Ren was forced to take a step back from music and move back to his hometown of Brighton.

Roughly around the same time, sixteen-year-old Sam Tompkins had begun to make an impact in the Brighton-busking scene. Through street performance and covering the likes of Bastille, Rizzle Kicks and Conor Maynard on YouTube, Tompkins went on to release an eclectic mix of excellent techno-pop tracks, turning heads all over with his mind-blowing falsetto. While still continuing with their solo project, the pair began collaborating around 2014 and have become two of Brighton’s most famous faces.

Earlier this year, the duo started to create a real buzz around their city. Gathering large crowds on various corners with their energy-driven covers and tight-originals, they became a YouTube sensation with thousands getting thousands of views accumulating on various social media platforms.

Whether they’re performing together or focussing on their solo endeavours, we can see a bright future on the horizon these guys.
