Track of the day: GANGLY – ‘Blow Out’

The elusive GANGLY have recently released their new fluid music video and track ‘Blow Out‘. Filled to the brim with echoing vocals and submerged rumbling bass lines, this track is dripping with atmosphere and emotion. Little is known about this mysterious trio with their social pages giving almost nothing away – other than that they’re from Reykjavík, Iceland. A string of strangely animated videos, all following the same flowing rhetoric, have surfaced online throughout the course of the last year strengthening GANGLY’s presence.

The video for ‘Blow Out‘ follows the journey and transformation of a Silver Surfer like being as it mutates and morphs with its surroundings. Shopping trolleys hurtle towards it, creating chaos within this strange, tranquil dimension. The tones and colours bleed as the sentient presence submerges itself in a sea of bronze and rose gold, becoming one with the deluge. The climax of the video portrays this unknown entity finally reflecting, refracting and mutating, sprouting metallic branches which glisten in the darkness as it becomes one with the shimmering foliage.

Mirroring the video’s protagonist, the sound is constantly evolving. Starting out slow with airy vocals, which sound like they were recorded in a distant cave somewhere, the sound cements itself with deep, bellowing bass lines and finger snaps. As it climaxes the other elements rush in like a tidal wave. Detuned, mechanic hi-hats stagger along desperately trying to keep the tempo rolling as old dusty piano keys and distorted synths wail above the sub terrain.

This drenched in gold masterpiece is one King Midas himself would be proud of – and GANGLY should be too. The song and visuals are both beautifully captivating and even though it’s difficult to work out what’s even going on, and why, it’s hard to even care when it’s this good.
