After the enormous response to his highly-praised debut EP ‘God Ache’ last year, emerging Manchester-based singer-songwriter T.R. Burge returns to deliver his latest humbled offering ‘Selling You’.
As the title-track lifted from his forthcoming EP, ‘Selling You’ makes for a wonderfully pensive and moving release. With his soft and lilting voice layered across a shimmering acoustic-led aesthetic, he is cementing himself as a mesmerising delight with this new outing.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him of late.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
There was an end scene in ‘The Shadow Of The Beast’ computer game. Basically it had a lightning bolt going through your character’s chest when you died in the game and an epic electric guitar rang out with distortion, flange and loads of reverb. It actually brought me to tears as a kid ha. Must have been then. I recently was able to find it on YouTube which was great.
What was the first band or artist you enjoyed when you were younger?
Greek plate smashing music, I remember my mum had a LP with some really fast paced and energetic greek songs on, it had so much joy and energy to it, it was infectious.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I can’t specifically remember the 1st album to be honest, I do remember owning the ‘Terence Trent Darby sign your name across my heart’ single though, I still think it’s a good tune actually.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
I have to say I don’t feel like that about songs, everyone’s song has their own vibe and contains their own lens, this doesn’t mean I don’t get blown away by a lot of songs though.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I really like King Hannah. I couldn’t stop listening to ‘I’m not sorry I was just being me’ and I just love the sound of it, her voice and the production. I actually bumped into her randomly outside Chester train station and got to tell her this so that was very pleasing!
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
1st time I recorded in Impression Studios in Berlin. I had no idea what to expect but it turned out to be a wonderful experience and I also met people I’m still in contact with and friends with today. All because I picked up a flyer in a record shop and decided to call the number.
Which artist would you most love to share a stage with?
Anton Newcombe. He’s a legend.
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Guy Blakeslee, I went to see him with Lael Neale recently in Manchester and I love what they are doing.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
For me sitting in my bedroom and writing and practicing music, it’s where time stands still.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
It’s a journey, just keep at it (I just made that up but that’s what I would have liked to have heard)
