A skilled guitarist, storyteller, and lover of 90’s rock, Aaron Marlow released the highly anticipated LP ‘Resurrection‘ last Friday, July 28th. With a variety of country and rock influences, Aaron has crafted an album that is simultaneously heartfelt and head-banging. We had the opportunity to talk with Aaron and ask some burning questions about this exciting new release.
MC: Being an experienced guitarist is a big part of your music. How did your guitar knowledge influence the writing on ‘Resurrection’?
Aaron: I’ve always been a fan of hard guitar solos in rock, and I wanted the music to tell a good story and the lyrics that go with them.
MC: Which song off the LP is your favorite to play on the guitar?
Aaron: My favorite to play would have to be ‘Don’t Look Now‘ It was the first I had recorded and really represents my moving forward.
MC: Why is the LP titled ‘Resurrection‘?
Aaron: It represents a major change in my life. I just went through a very rough divorce and other personal issues, and I pulled myself out of it and the rebirth of my life.
MC: What is your writing process like? Do you always start with guitar, or do lyrics inspire you first?
Aaron: I usually start with lyrics and sit down and write my music over them, fixing them as I go. I have a lot of lyrics that are yet to be put to music.
MC: What do you hope listeners get out of ‘Ressurection‘?
Aaron: I hope they enjoy the songs and can rock out to them. Also, when I was growing up, I could hear a certain song at a certain time and it really helped me pull through. I’m hoping I can do that for someone who listens and it helps them through a hard time.
MC: How has moving to Nashville during the pandemic affected this LP? Do you think the messaging would have been different if you wrote it back home, or in a different city?
Aaron: I had begun work on an EP just before the pandemic and did a few recording sessions over zoom and was able to finish right after the pandemic ended, two of those are re-recorded on the LP, so the pandemic didn’t really affect the writing.
MC: How did you select ‘Wayfaring Stranger‘ as a cover to add to the LP? Did you have it in mind in the beginning, or did you realize it complemented your originals later on?
Aaron: I chose this as a tribute to my family members that have passed away over the years, especially my parents and grandparents. It is my favorite gospel song and I wanted to do something special with it.
MC: Which song are you most excited to perform? Why?
Aaron: I have to say ‘Bottom Of The Shot Glass’, It’s a rocker that you can have fun with.
Aaron’s insight has shed light on his intentionality in this LP. A marker of moving on and starting over, as well as a tribute to his loved ones, Aaron proves there is more to his music than what first meets the eye.
