‘To Womb It May Concern’ shines with the vibrant and soulful vocals of Lauren-Lee Van Rheede that perfectly compliment the upbeat melodic hooks

South African singer and songwriter Lauren-Lee Van Rheede returns to the music scene with a brand new single ‘To Womb It May Concern’, which is dedicated to her heartbreaking yet inspirational journey into motherhood.

Her new single ‘To Womb It May Concern’ speaks of her pregnancy journey – which was not an easy one.

Lauren-Lee explains that “Upon finding out you’re expecting, it is every mothers’ prayer to have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Haydn and I were overjoyed with the news that we were about to extend our little family!

Our joy soon turned to fear when we found out I had preeclampsia.

This is the onset of hypertension during pregnancy, a very serious condition, so serious that it actually weakened my heart!”

The song shines with the vibrant and soulful vocals of Lauren-Lee Van Rheede that perfectly compliment the upbeat melodic hooks.

The track also showcases Lauren’s first class skills as a songwriter.

Lauren Lee took a moment from her busy schedule to answer a few of our questions.

1) What is the music scene like in South Africa?

The South African music scene is vibrant. We are blessed to have so much talent. Our music scene is almost as diverse as our people and new musical genres are constantly being developed. We, South Africans, love to dance so any music that can do, that naturally becomes a hit.

2) Who were your musical influences?

Jill Scott, her soulful voice has always been my inspiration.

3) What’s your life outside of music?

I’m happily married and my husband Haydn and I have a three-year-old son, named Luca. He keeps me incredibly busy, as you can imagine.

I am the eldest of three siblings and I love spending time with my family and extended family – we always have a good time when we are together.

Apart from being with my family, I am also a brand ambassador for the New Heritage Foundation – we go into schools to educate teens on safe sex and building healthy, meaningful relationships.

I am also a voice over artist for Tongue Twisters.

4) If you could collaborate with any film or TV composer who would it be?

Hans Zimmer, he was the composer of my favourite childhood movie, The Lion King.

5) What’s your favourite genre of music?

Unsurprisingly from my earlier comments soul is my favourite but I also enjoy R&B.

6) What’s next for you musically?

I am in the process of writing my next single, then the recording and producing process will begin. I hope to release an EP before or by the end of 2023.

7) What are your strengths and weaknesses?

To quote my fantastic UK-based manager, he says I am polite and punctual and very good with learning lyrics! A weakness of mine would definitely be that to some extent I fear failure.

8) What is your guilty pleasure?

Sushi and creme brulee and although, not a secret, spending time with my husband and son.
