Melody is King – this is the mantra which guides MatteoM’s songwriting process, from beginning to end.

Voraciously listening to music for what seems a lifetime, MatteoM has been influenced by some of music’s greatest melodic writers and performers.

MatteoM was sent to piano, violin, and theory of music lessons as a young child. However, the lesson that thrilled him the most was listening to the radio and dissecting the melodies that seemed to reach out and beg him to be replicated on the piano.

Listening to mighty melody makers such as Neil Diamond, Benny Andersson [ABBA], Iva Davies [Icehouse], Sinead O’Connor, Gerry Rafferty and Grant McLennan [Go-Betweens], MatteoM set himself a high bar; to write melodies not easily forgotten.

The current generation of melody-makers such as Adam Grunduciel [War on Drugs], Florence Welch [Florence & The Machine], Moorhouse & Duncan [Ten Fe], the Treacy brothers [Columbia Mills] and Hamish Hawk, continue to fuel a relentless striving for the perfect melody which in turn, has driven MatteoM to a solo project long in the making.

‘Try and Love Again’ captivates with a blend of uplifting beats and vibrant melodies and all before MatteoM introduces his stirring vocals into the mix, as he lyrically describes the tragic pairing of a lack of self-worth wrapped in fear and anxiety.

The song sings about a fragile soul whose beauty is irresistible; however, a beauty that aches instead of sings. A soul so disconnected from love that it has even forgotten to love itself.

The lyrics plead for it to try and love again from a holistic point of view; for its own sake, not anyone else’s.
