Interview with Country Sensation Ashley Puckett

Country music sensation Ashley Puckett released her latest single, “Anchor,” a few months back. This release marks another milestone in Ashley’s burgeoning career, showcasing her exceptional talent as a songwriter, and her emotional depth.

“Anchor” is a poignant and powerful song, co-written by Ashley, with Andrew Douglas and Nathan Beatty, the same talented team behind her Top 80 Music Row charting single “Tequila.” The lyrics speak to the strength and support found in love, even through the most challenging times. Ashley’s soulful vocals and moving delivery promise to resonate deeply with listeners.

Ashley took some time out to answer some questions for you all here…

Your new single, “Anchor,” has such a powerful message about love and support. What was the inspiration behind this song, and how did the collaboration with Andrew Douglas and Nathan Beatty come together?

Yes!  I had a lot going on a few years back, and amid a long stretch of writers block, and a few good and not so good life events, I found myself in Miami – which has now become my spot of reset.  My dad, sister and I got matching tattoos on a birthday vacation and you guessed it, the tattoos were anchors.  Next thing you know, I’m writing this song, first I’ve written in a couple of years.  Life is funny I guess.  When I came back I missed the studio so much.  I immediately knew it was time to get back there and record some new work.  Doug, my sound engineer always has my back. He introduced me to Andrew and Nathan, and the rest was history with this song (and our previous release, Tequila”.   When you find that much talent and creativity all in one room, you are thankful. And I for sure was!  To see those songs come to life working with them with all of our creative minds going, was just magic.

You’ve mentioned that some of your musical influences include artists like Lee Ann Womack, Carrie Underwood, and Jo Dee Messina. How have these iconic women shaped your sound and approach to songwriting?

I love classics. Those country roots, soulful, meaningful, country songs are what I live for. These artists, among others share those qualities of real life, and real love.  They are career faithful musicians and stayed true to their roots.

You’ve had great success with songs like “Tequila” and “Bulletproof.” What’s been the most rewarding part of seeing your songs chart and resonate with such a wide audience?

Wow, so many things.  To know they there are so many out there supporting me and love what I’m doing is just astonishing.  It really gets to me though, when someone connects to a level of emotion. I’ve had people in the audience tear up during a song, or tell me stories of memories that something brought back after a show. You can’t compare that feeling and connection to anything.  This success also taught me a lot about myself, too.  I celebrate the little things more and it’s been rewarding to focus in the moment, not just what hasn’t come yet.

You’ve described yourself as an adventurous country girl who enjoys skydiving and bungee jumping. Do you feel that same sense of adventure when you’re creating music or performing on stage?

I do, but it’s different. I feel alive with music.  Those crazy things I do for enjoyment give me stress relief, fun and adventure, but music and writing and creating with others, being in the studio, that’s a different rush of its own.  I feel like my mind is budding like a flower when new ideas come together.  It’s an inner sense of achievement over and over when you see a song go from a voice memo or a few written lyrics to a real radio hit.  It’s just crazy!

Working with world-class producers and musicians like Bryan Cole and Doug Kasper has clearly influenced your career. How has their mentorship shaped your musical journey?

In so many ways!  Honestly, I feel I’ve grown a lot as an artist since my debut album.  I’ve found me, and my sound and what makes me – me.  I’ve personally overcome a lot of mental blocks, too.  Seeing how your own work becomes this work of art is just unexplainable and I feel like I’m a whole new person since that very first moment in the studio. But in the best of ways.

Your debut album, “Never Say Never”, was a big milestone in your career. Looking back, what was the most memorable part of bringing that album to life?

First and foremost just giving it a start to exist.  From the moment I sat and spent hours going through songs that were just right for my debut, to say something about me and welcome me into the mainstream country music world, and then to see the finished product like, damn, we did this! Haha. And All of the in betweens.  Working with the guys, building those relationships, laughing, eating crawfish – haha. There were so many memories.  I cherish every one!

You’ve been performing since a young age, starting with local events and open-mic nights. How do you think those early experiences prepared you for where you are today?

The nerves! Haha.  It’s so weird I’ll admit, some shows I’m so chill and excited and have fun making music, and some shows I just can’t shake the nerves. No rhyme or reason I’ve found.  But also, I think Lessing to connect to everything and everyone in my own way. Performers are all different and I had to find my way of connecting.  And I think I did that.

With the release of “Anchor” and your ongoing success, what’s next for you? Do you have any upcoming projects or tour dates that fans should be excited about?

So for starters, I’ve been writing like crazy!  I’ve got a lot inside I want to share!!   We may or may now be working on some teaser videos for some stuff, too!  I miss the studio tremendously and can’t wait to get back!

As for tours, I’d still like to add something more before the year is over, so just follow my socials and my website at www.AshleyPuckett.com
