Prior to the release of his upcoming single Brush Strokes in April, we got to chat with artist Jody Bigfoot about his artistry, his influences and upcoming plans.
– So firstly, how would you describe your sound Jody?
I’ve work with many different producers spanning a variety of genres from 8-bit and digital reggae to trap, grime and experimental hip-hop. All these guys are all uniquely talented in different ways, coming from 8 different countries and I’d say the sound that ties them all together is raw and emotive.
– What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?
My studio equipment comprises of a mic, preamp and soundcard and resides in a spare room in my house. Most often, I’m recording drafts and when a project is feeling finished I’ll generally record final versions, putting down an album or EP in a few days.
– Do you have to be in a certain mood to write a song?
Definitely not, but it definitely helps a lot if you catch a vibe or find a flow state where high quality original lyrics come out.
– Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?
Retro Nintendo game music, Jamaican music and decent political rap.
– What do you have in store for 2023?
A hip-hop EP, A geordie and Japanese digital reggae EP , a steppaz EP, a grime EP, a dubstep/breaks EP and a couple features.
