A Nostalgic Debut from Rising Star Allyson Whitmell

Canadian singer-songwriter Allyson Whitmell steps onto the UK music scene with the release of her poignant debut single, ‘Crack in My Window’, available from 17th January 2025 via EMU Bands. Seamlessly blending elements of pop, jazz, and musical theatre, Allyson introduces a unique cinematic touch to her music, evoking the artistry of Sara Bareilles, Laufey, and Lizzy McAlpine.

The heart of Allyson’s music lies in her intimate yet powerful voice and intricate piano arrangements, coupled with a gift for crafting vivid moments in time. ‘Crack in My Window’ draws listeners into a deeply personal journey of nostalgia, grief, and gratitude. The track explores the emotional complexity of leaving a cherished place behind, using the metaphor of a stubbornly imperfect window to encapsulate the bittersweet feelings of moving on.

Collaborating with Jono Hill (of Bridgerton fame) on the lush strings and Ben Pelchat on production, Allyson weaves a tender narrative filled with yearning. “I wanted to feature strings, particularly solo violin, to create a nostalgic quality that lingers in the soul”, Allyson explains. “This song is for anyone grappling with transitions—whether it’s a place, a chapter of life, or even a person.

Allyson’s musical journey is as rich as her sound. A graduate of the University of Toronto in Piano Performance and Composition, she is an accomplished pianist and vocalist, holding distinctions from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Currently pursuing her Master’s in Applied Music and Health, Allyson also delves into the transformative field of Neurologic Music Therapy.
