A Permanent Shadow shares covers EP ‘Summertime Love’

A Permanent Shadow has unveiled his latest EP, the lightly teased five-track covers project Summertime Love. CP Fletcher heads up A Permanent Shadow once again in an exploration of multiple music eras in an effort to honour memories of a carefree past of holiday fun.

He reignites the tracks to have resonance with a new musical landscape, starting off with Killer Boys, the previously released mash-up blend of ‘Killer’ and ‘Boys (Summertime Love)’.

Next is ‘Self Control’, originally by Laura Branigan, carrying the twinkling synths and tight drums of the eighties with deep expression. Third is ‘Sweet Harmony’, originally by The Beloved, bringing danceable grooves, and new age optimism to the forefront of the project at the midpoint.

‘I Know There’s Something Going On’ by Anni-Frid Lyngstad is next up, with a driving guitar undertone charging up the sound, assisted with spinning delays in the electronic and vocal sections of the arrangement.

Finally, Danny Wilson’s, ‘Mary’s Prayer’, provides a euphoric end to the EP, bringing together all the nostalgia that CP has explored in a momentous 80s icon. Across the five-track, there’s no doubt of a sentimentality, yearning and rose-tinted view of the past. But, aside from the track’s themselves, that’s an emotion that feels universal, for all of us looking back on youth, and through some of his favourites, A Permanent Shadow captures that outlook.
