The “secret society of Space-Caper solving time crime fighters” AstroYeti have come to define themselves with a trippy mix of genre that feels as out of this world as their self-described role in the universe. Nonetheless, their colourful music-making and free-wheeling style have not gone unnoticed, earning spots across tastemaker press and 500k streams on Spotify.
‘I Prefer Their Early Stuff’, the latest single to grace the ears of their fans, starts with a screaming blues harmonica, wasting no time at all in setting the tone of unadulterated rock-funk energy that seek to bring.
Bouncy, frenzied, rhythmic instruments from organs, guitars, and drums are all blistering around, calling out for your attention in a pedal-to-the-metal mix of danceability, flaunting solos and grooving verses. Punchy throughout; you have to hear it to believe it, but when you do, you’ll be firmly onboard.
The band explain the track, “‘I knew them way back when, before they blew up and sold out. Back when they were cool!’ We all know someone who talks about a band like this. We ALL probably talk about a band like this! I’m guilty for sure.
This song is about that phenomenon. I feel waves of that emotion whenever I see a kid in a Sublime or Nirvana tee these days. Aren’t they allowed to have their throwback retro moment? It’s probably the mixture of nostalgia and age that brews that negativity up.”
