Texas hard-rock and metal group Awaiting Abigail is fresh onto the scene. The six-piece has already built a bold reputation since forming in 2024, with technical prowess, raw emotion and melodic storytelling becoming key features of their developing sound.
Just their third single, ‘Bad Mind’ already showcases a catharsis and confrontation. Gritty, chugging guitars and bass roar with distortion, whilst screaming lead tones and intensifying vocals lead the listener into the darkness.
It’s reminiscent of metal’s glory days but brings a fresh take and modernity that reignites the flair for the genre you may have been missing. Overall, the track is heavy, uncompromising and a fantastic, just shy of four minutes, alternative energiser.
The band add, “Built on a bold 7/4 groove with a halftime breakdown, this anthem confronts mental illness with catchy lyrics and in-your-face riffs. Lighter verses offer moments of reflection, contrasting the powerful chorus. ’Bad Mind’ was written to express the difficulty of mental illness and ultimately how the answer to overcoming such is internal. Just put “one step in front of the other.”
