Belfast group Virgins are another Irish alternative act taking the scene by storm. They’ve received plenty of media attention, emerged on festival stages and are currently embarking on a country-wide set of live shows.

The band’s new track ‘blooms’ is a riotous, shoegaze-filled anthem, with a sense of floating cinema in amongst the brooding tones. The guitars move through the atmosphere, becoming noisier through their own reverb settings, creating a sense of hugeness. It’s definitely an evolution for the band, and hopefully more to come from this statement.

The rebellious streak turns into vibrant melodies and fuzzy overtones, allowing the vocal to slide in with an angelic otherworldliness. Getting progressively louder as it goes, it becomes more enticing, and more infectious, calling you deeper with layers of vocals that steadily become disjointed, before bringing out a saturated scream.

Songwriter Michael explains ‘blooms’ as “the band redefining our sound while delving to new emotional depths. A sonic exploration of tension and release, accented by reverse delays and glide guitar. Lyrically, it explores themes of reflection and self-confidence..”
