Southern retro-soul duo Bonneville is back with another new single, ‘Lady of the Tennessee,’ moving slightly away from their signature sound into a Southern rock atmosphere, akin to that found in the sounds of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers. This should come as no surprise, with the track recorded at FAME Studios, a sign of Bonneville’s creative bond with Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Written way back in 2022, it took until the back end of 2024 for the track to make its way to the studio, where a band of session musicians helped to support their writing to new heights. Grammy-recognised producer Starita was also on board once again, forging everything from expressive guitar solos to tight drum grooves into the mix.
Jeff Hayashi and Wes McGee perform at their best in the new single, shining through this fantastic sound expansion from the tender verses to a huge chorus climax to round out the moment.
“Our biggest challenge was getting the new arrangement tight in the studio,” Starita shares. “The band had just played the song in its original form in preparation for the 65th Anniversary of FAME Studios Show in Huntsville. So, they had to relearn the song again in the studio. It took some time, but we nailed it.”
