Hailing from Brighton, four-piece Canned Pineapple has had a 2024 to remember. Sharing stages with LCD Soundsystem, The Last Dinner Party and The National all in the space of a year, they got recognised by pretty much every tastemaker you can think of. With more performances across the UK already pencilled in for December of early 2025, the only way is up.
With that in mind, it’s time we got a listen-in for their latest single ‘My Only Favourite Girl’. It wastes no time setting the tone, immediately coming in with a riotous guitar riff and energised drums. Their cheeky attitude begins with the verses, headed up with performative vocals from Sean Drury.
A little bit of psychedelia and nostalgia plays into their hand, following an old-school structure with an entirely new perspective. Fitting all that into a short and sweet package, the track is an unapologetic stimulant, grinning along the way.
The band had this to share, “When Canned Pineapple were on a 2 week long hedonistic getaway to nowhere specific, they got up to plenty. After meeting allusive spirit guide figure ‘Nora Chatton’ the five pineapples continued their strange journey under her wing, hardly leaving her side. They bounced between a number of cities, parties and pillows before returning home leaving Nora behind. ‘My Only Favourite Girl’ highlights this two week period which was a very important time of growth and expression for the band.”
