Catlea: Rising Star Unveils Lead Single from ‘Bones’ EP

As the music landscape continues to evolve, few artists manage to capture listeners’ attention quite like Catlea. Following the monumental success of their previous singles—“Like Me,” “Lying,” and “Crumbling”—which collectively garnered over two million streams, this eclectic Cincinnati native is poised for even greater heights. Their fourth single ‘Bones’ is set for release at the end of October as the lead single  from their upcoming ‘Bones’ EP—which includes the three previously released songs—in support of the  full-length ‘Language Barrier’ album debut on January 17th, 2025.

“Bones” will serve as the lead single from Catlea’s upcoming EP, aptly titled Bones, which will also feature the previous three tracks. This release is not just a teaser; it’s a prelude to their debut full-length album, Language Barrier, scheduled to drop on January 17, 2025. The excitement surrounding Catlea is palpable, fueled by critical acclaim from notable publications. It’s All Indie describes their sound as “incredibly anthemic,” while Clout calls their music “engrossing and immersive.” With nearly four million streams on Spotify, Catlea has established themselves as a formidable force in the industry.

The singer-songwriter has truly defied stylistic restrictions in ‘Bones’ by effortlessly blending genres in a creative concoction. With indie-pop foundations, a lush infusion of soul and R&B, and a hint of disco all wrapped in an undeniable groove, there is an expansive landscape to explore in ‘Bones’, reinforcing Good Music Radar’s observation that Catlea is an “expert sonic collager”.

The track breaks down the complexities and contradictions found in a shared, universal experience: breakups. Often laced with emotional upheaval and feelings of isolation, ‘Bones’ not only opens a conversation about the confusion of a breakup (wondering what went wrong and when, where, why, and how), but broadens the dialogue surrounding the aftermath. In particular, Catlea’s lyricism admits to the frustrating duality of not yet being over someone but growing tired of talking about it.

But what truly resonates in “Bones” is its thematic exploration of breakups—an experience that’s universally relatable yet deeply personal. The song addresses the emotional rollercoaster that accompanies the end of a relationship, delving into the confusion and loneliness that often follows.

By allowing an insight into their vulnerabilities, Catlea provides a safe space for listeners. Their music shines with the simplicity that it’s okay not to be okay, for things to not quite make sense. In ‘Bones’, Catlea’s answer to the heartbreak is steady and balanced: I may be lost right now, but I’m learning – and ready to move on.

Surprisingly, ‘Bones’ almost didn’t feature on Catlea’s upcoming album, ‘Language Barrier’. Only when finalising the album in Barcelona’s Room To Studio, did producer Jason Boshoff and guitarist Oscar Garcia-Bragado hear a demo version and ask Catlea why it hadn’t made the final cut. After finishing the writing of ‘Bones’ in one night, Catlea now considers it one of the strongest songs on the album.

‘Bones’ adds to Catlea’s already well-established, comprehensive discography, and with their potential ignited, is sure to amplify their momentum further.
