Fresh from the roaring sonics of ‘FMIF’ and debut EP the bed i lie in, Chloe Star is taking a moment of quiet with her latest single. Hailing from LA, Chloe has always found poetry a point of solace, though it’s in her more vulnerable moments that we can fully appreciate the reflective nature of her lyricism. After a chaotic childhood between Los Angeles and San Bernadino, Chloe taught herself piano and guitar, making poetic moments momentous anthems. Taking her foot off the gas for just a moment, she unveils ‘Stand The Silence’.
Perhaps it’s the stark contrast to her usual punk-tinged, unapologetic and wild choice of instrumentation, but there’s something that feels incredibly comforting in the new single. The acoustic guitar and vocals are produced to perfection, reverberating out into the atmosphere, whilst the harmonic layers take on a natural quality, like angelic breaths descending on the lead melodies.
Chloe’s performance is full of sorrow, like every unhappy moment has finally broken the dam, and she now has no choice but to be swept away in the rush of water. Though her lyrics are tender and dreamy, no words are necessary, she builds this emotion on tonality alone.
Chloe adds a comment, summing the track up in one perfect sentence, “Sometimes life moves so fast and can be so loud that when I finally find myself home alone the silence screams at me.”
