Toronto singer-songwriter and producer Chris Grey has returned with his new single ‘I Should Be Happy’, presenting an irresistible fusion of pop and R&B. Offering a dark, moody soundscape with dynamic beats and shimmering drops, Chris demonstrates his sleek production capabilities, whilst also lending his agile vocals to on-trend melodies and emotive lyrics.
Revealing more about his new release, Chris says: “‘I Should Be Happy’ is about the internal struggle of feeling guilty for not feeling good, even when things are going well. I was just starting to see someone and everything was going well but for some reason, I just didn’t feel as good as I thought I should. I was overthinking everything so much I couldn’t even stop to enjoy things. I think this song is in some ways even more relevant now as life returns to normal, which as much as we’ve all been looking forward to, can also come with a lot of anxiety.”
Accompanied by a self-directed music video which is arriving later this month, ‘I Should Be Happy’ is an exhibition of 19-year-old Chris Grey’s multitude of creative skills. The deeply honest, introspective track captures a relatable feeling of anxiety and packages it in smooth pop wrapping, serving as a reminder that Chris Grey is set to make waves on the star-studded Toronto music scene.
