Composer Joanne Clara releases her debut neo-romantic album, ‘First Steps’

OUT NOW – Listen Here

First Steps‘ is Joanne Clara‘s latest instrumental masterpiece, an 11-track cinematic album that delves into the emotions and longings of the human heart. The album’s genesis lies in a serendipitous moment during a film-scoring session in New York in 2017 when Joanne jotted down a seemingly simple 3-note melody in her notebook. Over the last seven years, Joanne has expanded this humble motif into eleven dynamically contrasting pieces that follow a single story arc—the cycle of life. With each track representing a phase of life, Joanne has created a highly immersive and visceral experience for listeners through soul-stirring music that is raw and unapologetic.

Joanne Clara is a British-Chinese composer, producer and songwriter at the forefront of a new wave of emerging artists in film, television and dance. Joanne has collaborated with numerous critically acclaimed recording artists, including Grammy award winner Bobby McFerrin, Mercury Prize winner Michael Kiwanuka, Emeli Sandé MBE, JVKE (notably on the hit “golden hour”), and BAFTA and Academy Award winner Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Joanne’s upcoming instrumental album, “FIRST STEPS,” features contributions from Grammy and Emmy
award nominee Robert Logan. She has also produced custom scores and arrangements for films and documentaries, including “The Me You Can’t See,” co-produced by Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry forApple TV. Her multidisciplinary collaborations span performances and recordings with Burberry, Kinfolk, Microsoft, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lawrence Olivier award-winning Akram Khan Dance Company. Joanne’s work has been featured on BBC Radio, at The National Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, Sadler’s Wells, Air Studios, and the Royal Albert
Hall. After spending most of her life in London, Joanne now resides in California to work closely with artists in Los Angeles, where she continues to produce cinematic string and orchestral arrangements.
