Daniyal Shah has released his debut single ‘What Makes You, You’. It’s a well polished, thought provoking, dynamic and well-written track, that leaves us ready for more from the artist. The instrumental is made up dark chords, layered with equally melancholic, simple piano melodies. This is slowly built up into the vocal part, Daniyal’s performance is tension-building and evocative, embodying a wistfulness that is only echoed in the vocal harmonies with an almost chant-like, angel on your shoulder feeling to them. Sloshy drums are brought into the mix, along with further instrumentation, strings, more keys and bass, thickening the texture without dragging the audience’s focus away from the message. The single also contains a gritty guitar solo, which also captures the quiet perseverance of the song.
On the debut, Daniyal shares, “The track is about the duality of life. How hardships and struggles in fact pave way for greater experiences to come into fruition. How every individualistic action has a consequence and a benefit. The weigh scale of life is always falling on either side of the measure of darkness and light. The song provokes the listener to take control of their thoughts and actions. To take into importance spirituality and lean closer towards meditative states of being.”
Shah graduated as a Musicologist from Pakistan and is now based in London. With music that embraces vulnerability and authenticity, he also resonates with shared experiences of humanity. His mission is to spread love, hope and positivity through his work. In his compositions, he often moves towards darker moods despite the brighter nature of his message.
