David Barr has released his debut single as a solo artist, ‘Monday’s Rain’. The ex-Moon Kids frontman originally hails from Scotland but has traded this location for the Golden State of California. The artist also received positive accolades from the likes of London Grammar, Run DMC and Tom Waits when commenting on his song ‘Luna Park’ as a finalist of the International Songwriting Competition.
Bringing classic songwriting and boundless confidence, with his debut David forms a sunny indie anthem. Inspired by a road trip from Los Angeles to Nashville, David laid down the initial tracks in the Tennessee capital, before returning to the City of Angels to finish recording in Laurel Canyon.
David shares, “I love the sunshine, but as we were driving from dive bar to dive bar on the way from California to Tennessee, handing out flyers for the Moon Kids, I realised how much I missed the rain back home in Scotland. It was one of those moments where you think about what’s got you to this point in your life.
Monday’s Rain is a song about hope and chasing your dreams. It’s about overcoming self-doubt, of course, and the compulsion of making music in this upside-down world of ours.
It got a really strong reaction,” he adds. “They told me I should record it straight away.”
Going out on his own with glowing grooves and infectious melodies, David Barr embodies the positive energy of indie rock and will no doubt go far with his new direction.
