Dominique Way releases gorgeuous autumnal EP ‘Sprig’

‘Sprig’ is the glowing EP from Dominique Way, one of Canada’s fast-rising talents. Fans and industry alike have been hotly anticipating it after ‘Asphalt,’ which was backed by a host of tastemaker playlists due to its glorious piano, luscious vocal, leading influences from Regina Spektor, Maro, and Lizzy McAlpine.

The record opens with ‘How Could I?’, a vulnerable opener that leads into ‘Hangdry’, showcasing Dominique’s knack for crafting heartfelt melodies.

Joined by other notable singles, ‘Bodysnatcher’ and ‘Your Problems Are Mine’, the latter being bookended by ‘Indifferent’ and ‘Save Face’, unheard tracks with shining production accompanied by unique toplines. The record is produced and co-written by Grammy-nominee Harper Gordon (Burna Boy, RAYE, Vince Staples).

Discussing the record, Dominique says:

“This EP called for a lot of inner exploration as I experimented more than ever with my sound and with art in general. It was also the first time I accepted my emotions and allowed myself to free them through songwriting. Creating ‘Sprig’ pushed me to a place I didn’t expect, but in a way always knew and felt I wanted to be in. I learned so much from the relationships around me and my own while telling these stories; I will forever be grateful for that. I will always hold this project close to my heart and I’m so thankful for all the people who contributed to make it what it is.”

She comments on the project’s inspiration, adding, “Sprig is the sprout of my developing and ever-growing music career. It’s also the nickname my mom has been calling me since I was little..so it felt like the perfect title for my first body of work. When people listen to Sprig, I hope they recognize a familiarity and are welcomed into the music with open arms.

We tried to pull inspirations from old folk-pop as I listened to a lot of Carole King, Janis Ian and James Taylor growing up, and then blending those with new modern pop elements through production, drum breaks, progressions and melodies.”

Having amassed over 100,000 streams since January, Domonique has thrown herself headfirst into performing after enrolling in Fanshawe College. Raised on the sounds of Carole King and Janis Ian, Dominique has turned joyous family performances into a career that shows much maturity despite having started releasing commercially in 2024.

We can’t wait to hear what Dominique has planned for 2025.
