$ebbuku and ALINA collaborate on the old-school-tinged ‘Jackanory’

$ebbuku has quickly built an audience on the Norwich scene, building support from the press and BBC Introducing. Performing across the East at venues and festivals, Sebastian Bates, the man behind the moniker, takes a constantly evolving attitude to his sound.

For his latest release, the old-school-tinged, punk-infused and unapologetically $ebbuku single ‘Jackanory’, the artist collaborates with producer ALINA. The pair bring a gorgeous beat to the new anthem, with rich keys, record stretches and a floating saxophone line.

With the use of re-sampling at their fingertips, they are able to bring together the clean and the grimey, bringing modernity to a classic approach. It’s distinct, alternative, and addictive.

Seb explains, “Jackanory is quite simply my take on allowing yourself to let go of your past and not let the stories of your past define you. I speak a lot about my time living in Norwich, wanting to take my craft to the next level but in the process damaging myself for success. It’s almost like I’m talking to myself, questioning if I’m ready to take the steps I need to grow as a young man whilst maintaining my career. Although the song has deep undertones, I also tried to keep my lighthearted attitude in the track, making jokes about my experiences and tales of madness with the band. In the end the track is all about growth and takes a new direction for my music.”
