Sweden’s pop heart-throb Efraim Leo has just released his highly anticipated debut EP ‘Timing’ via Elaine Records, and with it he’s unleashed his infectious and vibrant brand of pop songcraft onto the world.
Approached like “writing a movie script”, the EP follows a carefully woven story, detailing the arc of a relationship. The self written collection draws on Efraim’s own experiences with heartbreak and provides a salve for the soul for anyone who’s going through the same.
‘One Of Them Girls’ acts as the beginning of the story, its buoyant and undeniably groovy beat, crafted into an uplifting electro-pop love song. “It’s about a girl I see and instantly fall in love with. She’s one of them girls that everyone wants to be with. Ultimately, she will break my heart.”
‘Talk To Me’, the song with which Efraim launched the announcement of the EP in April, deals with the aftermath of a relationship and finishes the EP in breathtaking style; it’s the perfect summation of his infectious and vibrant brand of pop songcraft. “It’s about how you really loved a girl, but she’s not talking to you anymore – and how hard it is to deal with that, when you don’t want to be enemies.”
The brand new track on the EP, opener ‘When I Wanted You,’ follows, immediately delving into the dramatic and urgent realisation of being trapped in a relationship. It’s hard hitting lyrics are underlain by a subtle, yet driving drum beat amongst brooding synth textures. “This song deals with the realisation of being trapped in a relationship with a girl that you have been chasing for so long that has let you down several times, and now you just wanna get out.”
EP title track ‘Timing’ is part four of the story with a resolution of sorts “it’s about understanding that you will find the perfect someone, someday – and sums up the whole EP. You find someone you really like, they break your heart, you’re trying to deal with that then eventually come to the conclusion that you know you’re going to find someone, it’s all about timing.”
Together, the collection proves that Efraim Leo is an exciting new force in pop. His sharp lyrics and instantly accessible melodies displaying a talent beyond his years.
