Quickly becoming known for her raw songwriting techniques and grabbing the attention of the music press, Elisa May’s collaboration with Gregory Darling and 2LionStudio has undoubtedly helped her music to flourish. Harnessing her talent from as early as 16 to offer listeners solace in her own torment. The Prague-based alt-pop riser continues to astound with new single ‘War Inside’

Elisa May’s new single opens with a gentle, vulnerable vocal over a wistful piano melody. From there, the conflict grows, subtle string swells and driven drums becoming a backdrop to her internal struggle.

Her lyrics are poetic and thoughtful, her vocal performance almost losing itself in the emotion, but remaining steadfast as a choir grows behind her. The final moments become cinematic, calling out the chorus over and over. As the last note rings out, the pain is still present, but the music falls away.

Elisa dives into the track, “It signals change. The “war inside” is therefore self-explanatory: everything is shifting within you, making you feel like a stranger to yourself. However, I still like to leave room for interpretation, as I believe there’s more that can be found within the lines of the song.

While ‘Black Lines’ speaks directly to someone else and points a finger outward, this song turns inward, becoming a mirror that reflects on myself and the fragility of one’s core. The idea behind it is about losing yourself and parts of who you used to be, a process that can be devastating. It forces you to confront the question of who you are now if not the person you used to be.”
