Empathy bring alt-rock punch on ‘A Dying Breed’

Northside Dublin’s Empathy holds its origins as far back as 2017 when founding members began testing their songwriting together. Since completing their current quartet lineup, the band have stormed onto Ireland’s live scene, making a name for themselves at Whelan’s, The Button Factory and The Academy, headlining shows and on the bill for sellout events.

After releasing their first single ‘Jeffrey’, Empathy has injected a new buzz into their presence, follow-up ‘A Dying Breed’, showcases a new side to their songwriting but ensures the ferocity of alt-rock is kept at the centre.

Opening with a slightly ethereal, dark introduction, the band pull the listener in before adding a shot to the chest, their distortion reaching an anthemic status in the chorus as the title rings out from the vocals. There are plenty of fierce guitar solos, heavy vocals, pounding drums, and thoughtful lyrics to round out a perfect package.

“A Dying Breed is a song about the social climbers and sycophants we all brush shoulders with. Status seekers who ultimately burn out fast. We all know them,” the band explain.
