Hailing from the suburbs of Atlanta, Evelia’s early days were marked by a soundtrack that ranged from Taylor Swift to Snow Patrol. At fourteen, she inherited an acoustic guitar and began to craft her own niche in the world of music. She’s come a long way since then and is a marked rising star for 2025.
Evelia’s new EP, On Your Roof, is pure beauty. Vulnerable songwriting is at the core, telling emotional stories of relationship turmoil, trying to recapture the rush and spark of the early days as the flame begins to falter.
Openings track ‘The Rind’ features sleek indie grooves, with a bouncy rhythm section, synth twinkles, acoustic engines and a gorgeously layered vocal. ‘Molars’ then pulls back with a quietening feeling, letting emotions settle before re-exploding into visceral cries.
The third track, ‘You Are Not To Me Who You Were,’ keeps up this energy. Feeling forlorn but steadily growing in amongst stormy instrumentation. Graceful melodies transform into distorted screeches as drum fills drive a cinematic peak. The final number and title track is a pure indie-pop anthem; there’s simply no better way to describe it. Evelia finds her feet emotionally and creates a clarity of confidence that feels so pure to the core memories of your first relationship.
In her own words, “I wrote this EP in the aftermath of my first real breakup when I found myself begging for something across these tracks. In my early twenties, I navigated what I wouldn’t stand for in a relationship and how I let that define me. These songs were penned alone in my bedroom and later brought to a band in Athens that helped shape the sonic threads, taking the music from acoustic ballads to polished, indie rock songs. I hope that you listen to this project and are reminded of being 20 and madly in love—that you recall the brutal push and pull of making a dying relationship work, and remember the first time, fresh from heartbreak, that you found yourself.”
