London and Berlin-based experimental rock band BLOKE are building anticipation for their upcoming debut EP “Living Without Expectations” by releasing their lead single “Money Says”.
The track represents an ambitious genre exploration, weaving together elements of psychedelia, krautrock, shoegaze, and noise rock. Conceptually, the song draws a provocative parallel between the childhood game “Simon Says” and the pervasive economic systems that subtly control social interactions.
Through visceral guitar sounds and incisive musical composition, the track offers a critical examination of capitalism’s underlying mechanisms. The band transforms an economic critique into an immersive, psychedelic musical experience that challenges listeners to reconsider societal power structures.
In conjunction with the single’s release, we spoke with BLOKE’s lead vocalist Jacob Buraczewski about the creative inspirations driving this musical project.
What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
Although I started on bass guitar, I found playing acoustic guitar truly fascinating. Hearing the rich, resonant sounds fill the room, all from the wood, was an amazing experience.
What was the first band or artist you enjoyed when you were younger?
I think my first fascination with music came from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Their sound pulled me into the alternative world of psych rock, completely immersing me in its atmosphere.
What was the first album you remember owning?
It’s a bit embarrassing to admit, but if you think about composition, “Joyride” by Roxette—a real burner—played a pivotal role for me. I owned it on cassette when I was eight years old, and it became the bridge that led me to start making music.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
For me definitely Red Eyes and Tears by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I think at the moment its Dead Skeletons
If there was any moment in your career you could relive, what would it be?
Maybe my time as performance artist before music
Which artist would you most love to share the stage with?
The Jesus and Mary Chain
And is there an artist you would love to collaborate with as well?
Peter Hayes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Sharing music with an audience creates a connection like no other. Those moments are pure gold
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Never change yourself for others—it takes away the authenticity of your music
