Earlier in the year, Go Hawaii released ‘Auburn’, sharing a new tonality for a new era, diving into darker soundscapes and vintage haze. With their next unveiling, ‘Days Wasted’, the band steady the dreamlike atmosphere, once again balancing alternative with warming.
Hailing from the outskirts of Venice, the pair have been making music since 2016, and in that time have constantly built on what came before, refining themselves into their 2022 debut album Trespass. After stepping away from releases for two years, the group’s return is marked as the lead-up to a fresh EP, promising to turn new listeners into fans.
‘Days Wasted’, with its optimistic dances of guitar and synth melodies, starts out with a more hopeful ring. It keeps this hope at its core, but through gritty, saturated chords and soft vocal poetry; it introduces a layer of reservation or internal struggle. It makes for another slice of spellbinding nostalgia from Go Hawaii, the perfect teaser going into 2025.
The band share, “When we wrote this song, we wanted to create a dream pop ballad, inspired by some of the records that came out in the early 2010s. We aimed for something very sweet and dreamy, but we also wanted to give it our own personal touch. That’s where the bridge comes in—we decided to disrupt the flow a little bit, shaking things up for the listener. We can’t just stick to a single genre or follow a standard formula; we always need to add our twist. That balance between the dreamy vibe and our unique touch is how the song came to life.”
