“Golden Hour” sees Cloud House at their best

2024 was a huge year for Cloud House. After selling out their second UK tour, including two nights in a row in their home city of Glasgow and a show in London, Cloud House gained the support of Radio X’s presenter John Kennedy, attracted national press attention, and became the first band to be selected for BBC Scotland’s track of the week three times.

The Glasgow-based band has always had a knack for crafting emotionally charged, anthemic songs, and their latest single Golden Hour turns up the volume yet again, both literally and figuratively. It came out on the 28th of February and also features ‘Loved By You’, an exclusive acoustic B-Side which happens to be the first song the band ever wrote back in 2019.

From the first note, Golden Hour is a track that feels bigger, bolder, and more unfiltered than anything Cloud House has done before. The signature atmospheric synths and impressive vocals are still there, but this time, the band leans further into their indie rock influences. The guitars are grittier, the drums hit harder, and the energy is undeniable. There’s a rawness to the production, courtesy of Sugar House (Corella, The K’s, Pale Waves), that makes the song feel alive, almost as if it were recorded in the middle of a packed-out gig.

Lyrically, Golden Hour cuts deep. Cloud House has never shied away from heavy themes, and this track explores the weight of grief and anxiety in a world that can feel overwhelming. There’s an emotional vulnerability woven into the verses, yet the track never lingers in despair. It’s introspective without being self-indulgent, balancing emotional depth with a catchy rhythm that gives the song a more positive vibe.

Fans of Sam Fender, The War On Drugs, and The Killers will find plenty to love here, but make no mistake: this is Cloud House sounding more like themselves than ever!
