Interview: Bowden Release New Single ‘Everyone’

We sat down with the incredible Bowden to find out a little more about what makes their unique sound. The Cork-based band, who previously released debut single ‘Peel’ which we featured here, are making waves so be sure to follow their journey!

If you were to describe your music to a stranger, what would you say?

I would say that it can be dreamy and ethereal but also a bit heavier than your normal altrock at times. Maybe a totally made up genre like heavyindie might do it

What is the message, if any, that you would like to get across with your sound?

That noise is important, it makes a difference. Just being in the same room as someone and getting a direct path to their brain for a short period of time is a huge privilege.

If your music was a colour, what would it be and why?

Red, ya definitely red. It’s slightly dark but also atmospheric. Red is a colour we always carry with us in our bodies, once the red is gone so are we

What artist has influenced your songwriting the most?

That’s a tough one but I would have to say Elliott Smith, that man was amazing. A one man Beatles. I love his melodies most of all plus his lyrics are absolutely devastating too. I don’t think life was a bed of roses for him but he left us a beautiful legacy which I believe will endure.
Where would be your dream place to play a gig?

Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury as the sun is setting on a warm Saturday night.

If you could write a song with anyone, alive or not, who would it be?

Probably Ed O Brien from Radiohead, his textural and ambient work with Radiohead would be a pleasure to try to conjure a combination of words and melody over. Plus his family are originally from near where I live so we’re practically neighbours in another universe.
What can we expect from you creatively in the next year?

God I wish I knew the answer to that too. It’s all about time really, I’ve literally hundreds of bits and pieces of music and lyrics and melodies in my head and on the recorder on my phone and on scraps of paper. The thing is I’m not a very organised person so getting them worked into proper songs, finished and recorded as a 5 piece band and to your ears can be something that’s not so straightforward at times. But we try.
Where can we find you?
