Below we interview the new and exciting artist Bobcat to find out more about his unique style after the release of new single ‘Transactional Love’. You can find a link to the release at the bottom!
Tell us about yourself as a band/artist?
Bobcat is a one man band like no other, with drums at foot, percussion at heel baritone guitar in hands, vocals and interesting musical arrangements of over 100 original songs plus many cover versions.
What got you into music?
Listening to The Beatles at an early age, Putting the whole thing together in 1994 when I was 12 years old, and I listened to The Beatles Live at the BBC and indoctrinating my life to rock n roll.
How would you describe your sound?
My sound is where punk rock meets the Beatles, psychobilly meets Motown, Chet Atkins meets Nirvana and Elvis Costello playing rockabilly.
What is your favourite venue to play?
So far, my best show on tour was Rock n roll Pinball in Opelika AL. Other venues I enjoyed were Down Under Lounge in Omaha, Crafty Canary Brewery in Walsenburg CO, Mutiny in Ocala FL and Seymour Brewing Company in Seymour IN were the best so far.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Right now, I think James Hunnicut would be a great collaborator, Fishgutzzz would probably come up with some wild lyrics and theme to something I do. Sewerside Bombers from Florida are pretty top notch as is Black Cat J from Wichita, M G Bailey from Illinois and Bloodbelly Blues from Denver CO. Right now, my main collaboration partner is Matt from my band, The Arkhams. I want to keep this and expand exponentially.
What is your creative process, and do you think it differs from others?
I build my music from the chords and melody. Lyrics come parallel to the music, but I always write them to the music which usually comes first. I think I’m a little different because I always try to create melodies and harmonies that were not previously there.
What is special about this song/album to you?
My newest song, Transactional Love is special to me because I wrote lyrics about leaving a relationship once it felt well, Transactional and not genuine. I had the slide guitar melody in my head for a few months and I married it to a Smokey Robinson and the Miracles like chord progression. When you cross all that together, you get a very honest story of what I will not tolerate in
any relationship with any other person.
