“Grande Amore” (English: Great love) is a song performed by Italian operatic pop trio Il Volo and written by Francesco Boccia and Ciro “Tommy” Esposito. The song won the Sanremo Music Festival 2015 and represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 where it won the televoting from viewers, came sixth from the juries so and came third overall. Italian operatic trio Il Volo’s number 1 song ‘Grande Amore’ is transformed into a Celtic anthem in the dual language cover ‘An Grá Mór.’
Sung in Irish and English by singer-songwriter and Voice of Ireland Semi-Finalist Ciara Donnelly, collaborating with Italian musician-producer and guitar player Julyo and film scoring composer Dario Rodighiero featuring an original fiddle score by The Waterboy’s long-standing member Steve Wickham. The modern and soulful vocal nuances of Donnelly’s voice are complimented with the haunting fiddle playing of Steve Wickham to produce something that can only be described as otherworldly. In addition, Rodighiero’s specialty in film scoring comes to the fore to create epic moments that wouldn’t be out of place in big-budget medieval and fantasy dramas. All in all, Il Volo’s original track has been entirely reimagined in a true celebration of music fusion.
“An Grá Mór” is currently #1 World and #23 All Genres on the iTunes Charts (Ireland) and is available on Spotify, iTunes, and all major music platforms.
