Jei-Rynn is a singer-songwriter from Orange County, California, who blends grunge, pop-punk and emotive storytelling. Since 2019, he’s been tackling themes of identity, isolation, and mental health, all of which resonate deeply with his growing fanbase.
He draws from experiences as an Asian-American and a passion for self-expression with intensity and vulnerability. Impacting fans from the stage speakers and home headphones, he’s been a standout voice on the rise for alternative music.
Jei-Rynn’s latest single, ‘never dying young’, opens with a guitar tone that strikes the perfect balance between brooding grit and vulnerable fragility. The cathartic pop-punk floor-filler that follows is a flash into the early 2000s with an authentic modern drive. From grungy verses, Jei-Rynn rises to almost euphoric choruses, purifying his sound with rays of rose-tinted love whilst retaining the angsty grind that draws listeners to his music.
The artist shares, “‘Never dying young’ is about letting go of teenage fantasies and mourning the loss of your younger self. I was also writing about the parts of myself that haven’t changed at all over the years; the parts of myself that are still so childish that seem core to my inner world, for better and for worse. A lot of artists have a lot of yearning in their souls I think, and I’m no exception. I think the song captures this as well in a weird way. Like the other songs from the EP, the song was recorded with producer Alex Newport (Mars Volta, Bloc Party, At the Drive In) at his studio in the deserts of Yucca Valley.”
