JOHNNYSWIM Faces Life’s Battles with ‘When The War Is Over’

Los Angeles-based folk-pop duo JOHNNYSWIM returns with their fifth album, When The War Is Over, released on February 7 via their own imprint, MR AND MRS SWIM LLC. Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano Ramirez, the daughter of the legendary Donna Summer, channel personal struggles into an 11-track collection that balances raw emotion with lush instrumentation. Days after the album’s release, they performed the standout track ‘Dopamine’ with Tobe Nwigwe on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The album is a deeply personal reflection on resilience, self-realization, and growth. Produced by Abner Ramirez, mixed by Raul Lopez, and mastered by Jonathan Grant Berlin, it captures the duo’s organic chemistry through live recording sessions with their favorite musicians. From the triumphant build of ‘Alchemy’ to the contemplative acoustic strains of ‘Los Feliz,’ the record weaves folk, soul, and pop influences into a cohesive and intimate journey.

‘Dopamine,’ featuring Tobe Nwigwe, stands out with its striking contrast of poetic rap verses and sweeping vocal harmonies. It opens with sharp lyricism over a driving rhythm before blending into a rich chorus where Amanda and Abner’s voices intertwine seamlessly. The song captures the highs and lows of navigating difficult times, set against warm guitar tones and bold drum arrangements.

JOHNNYSWIM has spent nearly two decades perfecting their sound, drawing comparisons to artists like Teddy Swims and John Legend. Their career has taken them from Tiny Desk Concerts to festival stages at Railbird and Bumbershoot, while their music has resonated with millions, amassing over 575 million global streams.

The duo embarks on an extensive tour in support of the album, with upcoming dates including London’s Scala on May 20 and Amsterdam’s Tolhuistuin on May 21.
