Kiey teases third album with new single ‘white boy i sat next to on the plane’

Originally from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, it was during his time at King’s College London that Kiey first began to focus on his music. Taking complete control of his songwriter, recording and production process, he created 2019’s ‘Night To Myself’, the first showing of his incredible abilities and resourcefulness.

Next came 2022’s ‘Sunday Sanctuary’, a project that indulged in more electro-pop sensibilities, whilst the music videos associated with the project highlighted a talent for visual media as well as music.

Now, after 2023’s Vietnamese single ‘Mê Cung’ was released, Kiey returns with a new single ‘white boy i sat next to on the plane’. The first English single from his third album, the track introduces an element of orchestral composition to Kiey’s electro-pop aesthetics. Delicate piano lines and echoey percussion line the beautifully haunting vocal layers Kiey delivers. Filled with emotional confusion, the track balances an other-worldly feeling with natural and relatable lyricism.

Kiey speaks on the new single, ”’white boy i sat next to on the plane”’(yes the title is that long) first came to me during many of my working trips to Sapa, Vietnam. I already had this addictive piano riff in my Google drive that I kept playing over and over, thinking how to make a song over it. Bits and pieces of the melody were already forming in my mind but it was still incomplete because I didn’t know what the subject of the song should be. It wasn’t until when I was on a flight back to HCM, where I saw a beautiful guy sitting across the aisle that it dawned on me the idea of the song title! I quickly wrote the lyrics down over a couple of days and when it was finished, I was so excited because it came out exactly as I imagined it!”

Both the music video and single for ‘white boy i sat next to on the plane’ are out now!
