Electro-pop up-and-comer LION has sent a ripple of sonic innovation around his home town of Melbourne. Alongside the team at Tomboi Records, LION’s fiery mix of pop sentiment and firework electronic design has gone from strength to strength, each single garnering more critical acclaim than the last.
Paying tribute to the Melbourne LGBTQIA+ community in the video, and letting the soundtrack speak for itself with unstoppable hyper-pop melodies and infectious vocals, LION’s latest drop ‘Break The Binary’ champions expression and breaks down the barrier of normality.
The bass lines cut through a frenzy of synthesised and processed layers, screaming out of the speakers in a track that would shake any club dancefloor to its core. ‘Break The Binary’ is absolutely non-stop, from the first note to the last the energy is volcanic, and the production is perfected to hold everything together.
LION explains, “I was inspired by one of my trans pals who talked about boundlessness in one of their Insta captions, from which lyrics just started pouring out of me…This track has guided me on my identity journey, coming to the realisation that I’m genderfluid partly through the creation of this song.”
