Singer-songwriter Chavar Dontae has dropped soul-laced pop anthem, “All White M1”. The track digs into the light vs the dark sides of success, wrapped in smooth RnB imbued tones, that deftly balance the intimate and the intricate.
Delving deeper into the story behind the track, Dontae explains: “On the surface, the song is about a rare BMW Motorsports car. Only 453 were made including the pro car versions. At it’s true essence it is a redemption song. A fun night in LA turns becomes bombarded with people coming around for the wrong reasons. Those who only want to be around you because of the new-found success and status.
Bringing a fresh confluence of indie-pop stylings to the fore, singer-songwriter Chavar Dontae moulds a true melting pot of influences, drawing on his Brazilian roots, Midwest upbringing and subsequent move to Los Angeles. Accordingly, Dontae hones a catchy, bold soundscape, rooted in the consciousness of real-life scenarios, struggle and triumph.
After graduating from music school, Dontae made the move to California, finding traction with the release of 2019 single “Keep My Cool” and the subsequent EP of the same name. Indeed, Keep My Cool splayed vibrant synth pop with smooth RnB beats, with the genre-bending collection going on to find success on the iTunes Alternative Chart in multiple countries.
Support slots for Mike Posner, Marc Rebillet and Vinyl Theater would follow. Dontae also landed a lucrative spot at iVoted Festival, sharing the stage with Billie Eilish, Rise Against & Run The Jewels.
Late 2024 would see Dontae return with mesmerizing indie-folk offering “Too Much”. The serotonin-inducing track, doused in was glittered in pop sensibility. New effort “All White M1” announces Dontae’s first collection in three years. The anthemic offering showcases a unique blend of inherently rich soul, infectious hooks and relatable lyricism.
The unerringly toe-tapping tendencies of the track underpin a more cautionary tale on success. The negative attention coming as a perennial foil to the sense of accomplishment and the defiance required to overcome it.
