Lucas Harmon is a name you might be coming across more and more from this year onwards. The actor/singer-songwriter is gearing up for a big 2023 with feature film shoots, but in the meantime he continues to release and this time he delivers in spades with ‘Emilee’.
The artist lets us into his world for one night, when he was at a bar and met an interesting character. This person, who he calls Emilee, tells him her story and he finds out what lies beneath the surface of this stranger. With hopes and dreams of going to college in Europe, she struggles to find the money and ends up working in a strip club for a living, and eventually follow that path further into a darker place to come up with the funds she desperately needs for her dreams. It would appear in this moment that Lucas could visualise how one thing had led to another, as her dream ultimately disappeared from her.
Clearly touched by the fascinating story, Lucas went and wrote this song in her honour dealing with his own emotions at the same time. It’s wonderful when there is a message in a song, and the message here is that everyone has different struggles in life, so if you’re dealing with something, there’s always someone else going through something else. We can take comfort in that, and ‘Emilee’ gives us this perspective while restoring our faith in humanity.
