First emerging in 2020, Leeds duo Lucky Iris immediately caught the attention of tastemakers, building their presence with radio play, editorial support and press acclaim, alongside placements on the likes of Love Island. Maeve and Jasper, the pair behind the project, saw particular praise for their electrifying live performances, turning audiences into fans at The Great Escape, Live At Leeds, 110 Above and Long Division.
Their latest single ‘something to believe in’ is a testament to their endlessly infectious pop abilities, disguised behind an alternative backdrop full of distorted synth arpeggios and heavy bass hits. Bringing an otherworldly optimism to their melancholic tones they pull listeners from swirling ethereality into a pumping and dynamic anthem within seconds. Expressive and warm, yet aggressive and energising, it’s still very much clear to see why Lucky Iris has garnered their anticipatory buzz.
Maeve shares her thoughts, “When I’m going through a rough time there are two things I consistently turn to: Music, and football. Being a fan has always given me something to believe in when I need it. This track is our take on an anthem, an ode to the things we pour our heart into when we don’t feel like we can. For me, it’s football and pop music, so why not combine them both. There are so many parallels that can be drawn between football and music, but arguably the most obvious and important is the sense of community they both create. All you have to do is pick someone to support and in return get a sense of belonging. This summer we’re team Harry Kane, and maybe you can be team Lucky Iris.”
