magenta finds love and light on heartfelt new EP ‘Angel’

Toronto-based alt-pop artist magenta returns with her stunning 4-track EP, ‘Angel’ — a deeply personal exploration of young queer love, vulnerability, and hope. Known for her emotionally raw songwriting and dreamy soundscapes, magenta delivers a collection of songs that feel both intimately personal and universally relatable, solidifying her place among rising alt-pop talents like Phoebe Bridgers, Gigi Perez, and Jeremy Zucker.

‘Angel’ unfolds like a sonic love letter, chronicling the tender moments of a budding relationship. From the rush of new attraction to the protective instinct that comes with love, each track captures the highs and lows of emotional connection with a sincerity that lingers long after the last note fades.

The EP’s standout single, ‘don’t mess with her hope’, serves as its emotional centerpiece. Written alone in her university dorm room, the song began as an unfiltered stream of consciousness — a moment of reflection that blossomed into a poignant ballad. Producer Joshua Northwood helped refine the track, layering soft melodies and delicate production to complement magenta’s hushed, heartfelt vocals.

“This track is the last piece of the story of my EP Angel,” magenta shares. “It’s about protecting the person you love — holding on to hope, even when things feel fragile. I hope listeners can connect with the music and that it gives them hope in love, as this relationship has given me.”

The EP’s production mirrors its lyrical themes, with ethereal instrumentals, gentle guitar lines, and subtle, atmospheric beats creating a soundscape that feels like floating through magenta’s innermost thoughts. Each track is a testament to her talent for storytelling, painting vivid emotional landscapes with her words and voice.

Funded in part by FACTOR Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts, Angel is not only a reflection of magenta’s artistic growth but also a shining example of the community support that helps elevate emerging Canadian artists.

With ‘Angel’, magenta offers listeners a safe space to feel, heal, and hope. It’s a project that celebrates love in all its complexities, reminding us that even in life’s most uncertain moments, love — and music — can be a powerful source of light.
