MAGUIRE Launches Stunning New EP ‘Fantaisies’

The London-based multi-instrumentalist MAGUIRE has launched her beautiful new EP ‘Fantaisies’. Taking its cue from the artist’s classical training, the title is borrowed from Chopin – and the piano is the star of the show across this dreamy five-track collection.

The EP arrives with a brand new song and video, ‘Come Down’, tackling the subject of finding balance and stability amidst the constant cycle of substance-fuelled escapism. MAGUIRE says: “In a time when it is so easy to turn to altered states of consciousness to enhance the banal, this song questions whether it is in fact in the apparently ordinary every day that we can access the beyond. At its heart is transcendence – from the down-to-earth to glimpses of the sublime. By shifting our perspective to appreciate the small details of life there is no need to heighten experience or continue the chase for ecstasy as everything we are searching for is right in front of us.”

The accompanying video echoes the transcendent mood of the song (and the entire EP). Directed by the artist’s sister Anna Maguire, who explains: “The video for ‘Come Down’ tries to echo the question that Maguire asks in the song; ‘will you catch me…?’ This question is one we should be asking of each other, of our surroundings, and of ourselves, however this feels harder and harder to do as we grow older. Trusting that we will be caught is vital for jumping, transcending and going further than we think we can. How do we find the courage to trust? To jump?”

With a sound that’s hard to categorise, MAGUIRE makes music that is both complex and immersive, while simultaneously being accessible. The listener can simply drift away on its swirling chord progressions, or become transfixed with the cerebral subjects of her lyrics.

Entering music in the high-pressure classical world, MAGUIRE has since toured with artists including Soko, Ghostpoet, and RY X. ‘Fantaisies’ is produced by Liam Howe, who has also been behind some of the greatest left-of-centre releases in recent years from FKA Twigs and Lana Del Rey.
