Manchester post-punk band ‘Church Party’ drop debut ep ‘Cut The Colours’

Manchester Post-Punk band ‘Church Party’ has unveiled their debut EP titled ‘Cut The Colours,’ a 5-track record produced by Bob Cooper. With a distinctive fusion of fuzzy punk and catchy pop melodies, Church Party delivers a raw and emotive experience that mirrors the city’s atmosphere. Themes of sex parties, heartbreak, and recovery are explored within their hybrid sound, blending post-punk, sixties pop, and fuzzy English grunge.

The lead single ‘Back In The Room’ showcases their unique style, inspired by frontman Tommy Stewart’s visit to a friend who had been sectioned. The song juxtaposes sinister verses with dissonant guitar lines and funk-infused basslines, representing the friend’s nightmare, while the chorus embraces sixties-pop influences with dreamlike harmonies referencing a breakup sequence.

The EP marks Church Party’s official return since reforming in 2022 after their previous activity from 2014 to 2016. They gained a cult following in Manchester, receiving critical acclaim from DIY Magazine and Gold FlakePaint before disbanding due to Tommy Stewart’s struggles with addiction and his (at that point) secret bisexuality, only to make a triumphant comeback in 2021. ‘Cut The Colours’ showcases Tommy’s vocal prowess as he takes listeners on a captivating journey through his battles with addiction, depression, and sexuality, infused with witty quips and dynamic musical compositions.

The band consists of Matt Downes (guitar), Michael Copp (drums), Richard Stewart (bass and backing vocals), and Tommy Stewart (guitar and lead vocals). The EP is available on all streaming platforms, and a limited vinyl run of 100 copies is also available.
