Mark Rae has announced the release of his multi-media project New Town Ghosts, unveiling a single entitled ‘The Place I Call Home’. The project is set to cover a novel release and album drop, seemingly a passion project and simultaneously magnum opus from a man who mixed for Jay Z, The Parcyde and The Jungle Brothers. ‘New Town Ghosts’ has been recorded across the UK, features a host of talented musicians and mirrors a journey within the book in sonic form.
Starting with colossal synth shimmer, before diving into a grooving bass, drum and guitar trio, it sets out the cinematic scale. As the vocals come in, it quickly become palatable and easy-going, involving infectious melodies and sleek harmony.
There’s a depth to the track, but it never comes from a place of ego, instead feeling human, genuine, but brimming with elasticity and resilience.
Mark Rae describes the forthcoming project in his own words, highlighting some of the personal backdrop, “This project represents a high-water mark in my creative output. I wanted to explore themes of childhood friendship, our relationship with nature, and the spirit world. Set during the summer of 1976 in a Northumbrian new town, the story reflects the innocence and wonder of growing up during a unique time in history, intertwined with the emotional resonance of the music.”
