Mark Rae unveils the full multimedia project New Town Ghosts

With both the album and novel releasing today, acclaimed producer, musician and author Mark Rae delivers New Town Ghosts. The release follows an interview on BBC Radio 6Music and a premiere on Radio X, with praise for both the book and the music.

Rae himself describes the project as a “high-water mark” for his creative career so far, exploring his own childhood through themes of friendship, nature, neurodiversity and emotion, all “set during the summer of 1976 in a Northumbrian new town”.

Mark continues: “The story reflects the innocence and wonder of growing up during a unique time in history, intertwined with the emotional resonance of the music.”

The album features over forty musicians, allowing for the storytelling, and classic rock writing to be decorated with strings, brass and choir vocals. That expansive musician roster meant the project was recorded across London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Tunbridge Wells.

Mark himself has worked with a range of renowned artists, including Jay-Z, Bobby Womack, The Pharcyde, and Dinah Washington, earning platinum records and over 50 million streams. Co-founding Fat City record shop and Grand Central Records along the way, his distinguished career is perfect for this project, embracing DJing, authorship, and festival performances along the way.

With the project set to expand to theatrical performance in the Spring, New Town Ghosts promises to continue evolving into an immersive experience to be the cherry on top of an impressive career for Mark Rae.
