Irish-American artist MAZ has set her sound on a path to create ethereal poetry like no one else. Defined by a deep emotional connection to her songwriting, she has stood out since her 2021 debut. Now, in 2025, she re-emerges with new track ‘The Arsonist’.
The track opens with a distant piano tone, MAZ’s vocals drenched in reverb, conveying a sense of reflection and space. Synths, drums and guitar are all subtly filtered, allowing them to expand and grow within the mix, never taking away from MAZ’s heartbreaking and consuming delivery.
The climax fills the atmosphere with a soaring glow, pouring out the emotional pain before reducing it back down to a sparse and beautiful ending moment.
“In my new song The Arsonist, I delve into the complex emotions surrounding the end of a friendship,” MAZ explains. “The lyrics capture the turmoil I felt, using imagery of a burning house to reflect how the damage isn’t just in the flames but in the ashes left behind, and the confusion of trying to make sense of it all. This song explores themes of trust, healing, and the importance of surrounding yourself with those who offer unconditional love and support.
In many ways, The Arsonist is my way of saying thank you—for surviving, for gaining clarity, and for finding the strength to rebuild. And perhaps, the fire had to burn for the truth to finally come to light.”
